ABOUT US

VISION

Real pathways to just, sustainable, futures for the Global South.

MISSION

We empower decision-makers to collectively identify, open and harness real opportunities for just transitions, using evidence, experiments and new ideas.

OUR WORK

We have established a programme of work that links four key areas. We identify real transition opportunities as the Global South responds to climate change, and we formulate viable business cases for building and upgrading value chains. Climate change is a global challenge: we offer technical support in multilateral processes, to empower Global South actors to negotiate across multilateral processes. Finally, we catalyze action through our living lab — a collaborative, “do-tank” that moves just transition initiatives forward.

FEATURED REPORT —

Can international cooperation work for Africa and its states?

As a continent, Africa is rich in the minerals necessary for our transitioning global economy; but the region's demands are shifting, and with those, expectations that structure international partnerships.

It is impossible to confront these questions without taking seriously the roles of China and Chinese actors in global value chains, as well as local economies. How well do we really understand these roles? How do other foreign actors influence them? How are different African actors navigating these relationships on a fractious geopolitical stage? This paper adds to a growing policy discourse that seeks to develop evidence-based, conceptually sound, Africa-centred understanding of the pitfalls and potential of international cooperation on minerals, highlighting possible strategies to increase value creation and capture for African actors and economies.
